Newborn Information

Newborn Information Form – Studio

Congratulations and thank you for choosing Tamara Tigner Photography to photograph the most fleeting stage of your child's life ... the first few weeks. Below, I have enclosed the information pertaining to a newborn session at our studio. It is my hope that you will find this information helpful as you prepare for our session together. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

• Please feed your baby before you arrive so that he or she has a full tummy. Also, if you'd like shots of your baby undressed, please undress him/her and loosen diaper, then wrap your baby in a blanket, and feed him/her. Weather permitting, of course. Otherwise, your baby may get upset at being undressed when they were so cozy. I do like to photograph a newborn mostly in little to no clothes, but feel free to bring an outfit that you may want him or her in. Please note that many clothing changes may make your little one upset, so it is best to do birthday suit shots and possibly one outfit.

• I often use the parents as backdrops for baby, so please wear a black top and black pants (if possible). Also, an extra set of clothes for the parents is a good idea, just in case. Mom and dad are welcome to join for pictures with baby at no extra charge.

• Please know that there is no rush with a newborn session. I like to give special attention to each client, especially newborn sessions. Please know that I do not mind waiting for you to nurse or change baby, or taking a break to soothe your baby.

• When doing the poses where the baby is undressed, it is normal (and okay!) for him or her to "relieve" him or herself on my backdrop ... or anywhere else. I can assure you this happens all the time and I am not upset or offended. Please bring with you baby wipes, extra diapers and a towel. After each newborn session I am sure to launder all of my backdrops and other items the baby comes in contact with. This is included in the session fee for a newborn session.

• Please only bring those who are to be photographed to the studio. Also, cameras and other recording devices are not permitted.

• Please bring something for the older children to do while they are not being photographed. Crayons, mini board games, and books are good choices.

• Lastly, please bring a list of “must haves” images (close-ups with feet and hands, with someone, etc.)

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email me. My phone number is 405-406-3251 and my email is threeliltigs@aol.com

Thank you and congratulations again on your new addition!

Clothing Information

General Clothing Form

My motto in clothing is this: simple goes a long way! I like to keep the focus on the subject; therefore, simple clothing choices are best for creating timeless portraits.
I suggest loose fitting solid colors, avoiding busy patterns or logos/words. Blue's Clues is cute for playtime, but can look out of place for your child's portraits. Jeans, overalls, sun/slip dresses; khakis are classics and photograph well. I especially like boys in jeans and plains tees, and girls in simple sundresses; weather permitting of course.

Hats can also be very effective; as well as other accessories such as scarves or funky belts. If children are being photographed together, clothes that are similar in style give a more coordinated look. Bare feet are especially fun, and kids love it too. If shoes are preferred, please make sure they are in good shape, and not scuffed. Consider dressing in the color white sparingly, for this color often reflects light strongly.

Bare skin is my favorites on newborns and babies. You may have other clothes to put on baby, but keep in mind; baby may get grouchy when there are too many clothing changes. Diaper covers are a great idea too!

I suggest bringing a few outfits that you are considering and allowing me to help you make the final choice on what would best suit the look and feel you are going for in your child's portraits. I also have on hand a few items such as dresses and tutus that you are welcome to incorporate into the session.

Let's say, however, you want a trendier look for your child. Well then things change a bit! I love the timeless looks in the clothing mentioned above, but also enjoy photographing a session with a more "hip" feel to it. I still caution against bold logos or cartoon characters on clothing.

Please let me know ahead of time if you'd like to try for a trendier look, or a more classic look, or even both! For in studio, I use paper backdrops for trendy sessions, so knowing ahead of time helps me prepare for your session.

Family Sessions

Family photographs are special, a legacy of whom your family was for future generations to enjoy. Clothing choices are just as important for family sessions, as other sessions. I highly suggest clothing for each family member that has the same tone, not necessarily the same color. Please be wary of stripes, plaid, words and logos on your family's clothing. These things can be a distraction from your beautiful family. Oh, and bare feet are great for family sessions too!

In conclusion, clothing choices are important. As your photographer, I want you to see whom your child is, and not just what outfit they were wearing. Clothing should compliment your child’s look, not complicate it.

Please contact me for further questions on clothing.

Thank you.

Baby and Child on Location Information

Babies and Children Information Sheet – On Location

Thank you for choosing Tamara Tigner Photography to capture the beauty and spirit of your child. Portraits help you remember what you never wish to forget; that fleeting time in your child's life, childhood.

Here are some helpful bits of information to prepare you for your upcoming session.

The Session

For sessions in your home, I will arrive a few minutes early so that I can set up my equipment (if needed). I ask that I be given the space to focus on getting every thing put together quickly so that I can move on to photographing your child. I'd like to then touch base with you again on any ideas or vision you had for the session. Then the focus will turn to getting to know your child. I want them to be comfortable with me and, depending on their age, I may crack some jokes or act silly. In no time those genuine smiles will be shining and we can proceed with the session.

Getting to Know You

As a mother, I know my child can be shy around new people. I always respect a child’s personal space and gently work on getting them to open up to my camera and I. First you’ll see me get down on their level and introduce myself. If they are old enough, I will ask them their name and ask them to pick out a special name for my camera. Kids love this! If we are in your home, I will ask them to show me their special toys. If we are outdoors, I will lead them to interesting locations and watch them explore. I will take cues from your child and, most likely they’ll be sad when the session ends!

Older Children

For children around three or four and up, sometimes I ask for a bit of space while I am taking their portraits. Why? Often times a child feels the need to perform in front of a parent, and that often means un-natural smiles and expressions. I want to present to you images of your child that are natural and real and so I ask for space. Now, keep in mind I will let your child be our guide. If he or she starts to fuss, you will be quickly asked to come back until they are comfortable. I want you to be comfortable too!
When I say “space” I usually mean a few feet, but always have your child and I within view.

Say Cheese?

Those are two words you will never hear me speak at your child's session, and I would ask that you would refrain from using them as well; or any similar words or phrasing. Let me explain. I strive to get honest and natural expressions from your child. When a child is asked to 'say cheese', he or she will not give a natural smile, but rather they will be performing, and this will be apparent in the images. Please give me room to get on your child's level, and you will soon see the natural expressions you know and love.

Food Considerations

A full tummy helps keep babies and children happy and satisfied during their portrait session, but please be careful of what foods they eat before their session. Carrots and sweet potatoes are a sweet treat for baby, but can sometimes leave an orange tint on baby's skin. This tint may not always be noticeable to the human eye, but the camera's lens can pick up on such skin discoloration. Other foods such as spaghetti, lollipops and candy may also color the skin. Also, if you feed your baby lots of orange foods, their skin may give off an orange glow around the nose and mouth, but unlike food, this cannot be wiped away.

If your child has a cold, please be sure to wipe your child's nose and mouth thoroughly, because again, the camera may pick up what eyes may not notice.

Feeling Under the Weather

If your child is sick or feeling under the weather, kindly call me to reschedule. I'm a mother myself, and I understand that sometimes children get sick. I want your child to enjoy the photo session, and a sick child may not feel like having his or her portraits taken. I would appreciate if you could call to reschedule as soon as it's apparent he or she is ill. Thank you for your consideration on this matter.

No need to fret when your child gets a small boo-boo on his or her face days before the photo session. Minor re-touching is included in Tamara Tigner Photography’s print prices.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

I look forward to our session!

Sincerely,

Tamara Tigner
